We’re All Ears – June Challenge

This month’s inspiration photo was another unusual one, the nautilus inspired spiral walkway at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.  The walkway is sloped and gently guides visitors from one level to the next, visiting exhibits on the way.

Here’s the photo:

And here is what I made, available online – Hoop Earrings with wire wrapped seed beads

I was fascinated by how the colours seemed to spiral into each other, with the brown spiral appearing black sometimes, and a brown red for the rest of the spirals.  This colour variation makes the white dominate the overall look.

I used seed beads from my stash and resisted going out to get more.  My interpretation is an homage to the look instead of a faithful replication.

Though I wire wrap all the time, I had never actually tackled hoop earrings like this.  Once I got the knack of it, I was pleased with how quickly they came together.  My fingers are a little sore though.  Probably shouldn’t have made them all in one session.

Check out the other reveals here.

  1. Ooh! Sparkly goodness to start my morning! I love the simple design of these. I think they are a perfect embodiment of the inspiration photo. I just love seeing what everyone focuses on in their designs. I have been working a lot with wire myself and my fingers are raw too! I love these, easy to wear and quick to whip up! Thank you for joining in the We're All Ears June challenge. Enjoy the day! Erin

  3. I commend your use of existing beads in your stash, and these are the perfect ones for this challenge. I could relate to the sore fingers. I once agreed to make some wire-wrapped bobby pins for my hair stylist's shop. After a marathon of wrapping about 10 pins in one day, carpal tunnel syndrome stopped all of my beading for about a month. Disastrous! Now I have to really limit my wrapping and metal-cutting sessions. All things in moderation (something I have never done well). Anyway, I love your sparkly hoops.

  4. Nailed the colors in your delightful hoop earrings. I really like how they all turned out! Sorry all that wrapping gave your sore fingers.

  5. Hoops! Brilliant! It makes me want more piercings to wear them all together. :)
