Art Bead Scene – August Reveal

The August Art Bead Scene inspiration photo is based on the painting “The Indian Rug”, also known as “Red Slippers”, by Anne Redpath.  It is an oil on plywood piece that she painted in 1942

I was in a couple of shows at the start of the month, then on vacation, so I didn’t think I’d be able to participate in this month’s challenge, especially because I struggled with inspiration for this one

I was stuck on the red in the slippers, chair and carpet.  I didn't want to use red this month but couldn't seem to see beyond it, until I took another look at the colour palette suggestions and finally saw past the “red”

Here is what I made based on the inspiration:

Beyondinto Blue

The beautiful blue and earth toned coloured beads in this bracelet are handmade Polymer Clay pieces, made by Tree Wing Studios.  The various shades of blue place the focus squarely on the flashes of blue in the rug and the deep blue in the background.  The earth toned coin and “beehive” bead draw their inspiration from the branches and leaves in the rug and from the side wall of the image

I added small natural white shell chips to honour the background of the rug and to keep the mood of the bracelet lighter.  Instead of having the two flower coins dangling from the bracelet, I decided to add antiqued brass jump rings to top and bottom of the coins and attach both ends to the bracelet.  Keeping with the antiqued feel of the whole piece, I used antiqued gold clasp and components to complete the bracelet

New Show: Port Dover Summer Festival

A reminder that I will be at the Port Dover Summer Festival this weekend, August 16th 10:00 – 6:00 and August 17th 10:00 – 5:00.

The festival, Art In The Park, is held at Powell Park located between Main and St Andrew Streets from Market St East to Park St

My booth is number E14, located in the north east corner of the park, close to St Andrew Street, the purple circled star shown in the map below.  As you can see I am near 2 of the main entrances and near walkthroughs from the Used Book Sale area

Looking at the park from a satellite view there should be lots of ways to enter the park, unless a fence is placed around it.  This being my first year at the show, I am not sure if that happens or not

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and hope to see you there!  There will be lots of fun and things to see and do, with the festival, book sale, merchants sidewalk sale, beach and more

Misadventures of Working Outside

The weather was beautiful this weekend.  I spent a good part of the day on Saturday outside having fun.  This morning I needed to spend some time making silk cords and chains for pendants so I decided the table on the back deck was the perfect spot.

Things were going great, several silk cords done in silver and copper.  I was switching over to gold plated ends when…I dropped the open bag! And onto the deck, not on the table!

Here’s a close up of some of the jump rings.  Yes, I lost some between those gaps in the boards, and this is only a small part of what fell.

These are those same jump rings on the boards as the previous photo, along with the ones I had picked up before taking photos (no way was I going to put them back, even for a blog post)

I sure was glad to get them all picked up.  And when I was done, I decided it was an excellent time for a break, and lunch…

Looking at these photos again, I just realized how much the deck needs cleaning…sigh…
